What is Mold?
Mold is a microscopic fungus found all around us. Activated by moisture, mold can grow on virtually any substance. Molds can grow on wood, paper, carpet, and foods. Outside, mold can be found on plants, leaves and other organic material. Indoors it grows on any surface including heating and ventilation ducts, carpets, houseplants, drywall and more. Mold spores detach easily and become airborne, so simple activities like dusting or walking across the carpet can spread mold spores.
Types of Mold:
Allergenic mold
Allergenic mold can be harmless to many people’s health, but can cause severe allergic reactions to those with sensitivities mold. Allergenic mold can also cause significant structural damage to your property.
Pathogenic mold
Pathogenic mold can be very hazardous to those with compromised immune systems. It may cause serious health issues that must be addressed.
Toxic mold
Toxic mold, or toxigenic mold, contains and releases mycotoxins that we can inhale. Exposure to toxic mold may result in serious health issues, and even death. When toxic mold is found, immediate action must be taken by professional mold remediators.
What does mold need to grow and thrive?

A source of food
Wood, drywall, cotton, and fabrics make great food sources for mold.
Warmth

Moisture
Water is a large factor in mold growth. This can be from a leaky roof, flooding, leaking pipes, damp rooms, lack of ventilation, or humidity. With the right conditions, mold infestations can take root quickly in your home or business. Once mold spores are in your home or business, they need moisture to grow. If you remove dampness or humidity, or sources of water intrusion, indoor mold growth should not be a problem
